How do you choose the right training program?
Childbirth International is one of
the fastest growing training organizations in the world - we
currently have students from
every continent and 65 countries across the world
and every state of the USA. Our philosophy in training
Childbirth Educators, Doulas
and Counselors is to ensure they
have the confidence and skills necessary to
carry out their role professionally. This enables
them to support parents in making
the right decisions for themselves throughout pregnancy, labor and
birth - their birth, their way. We
strongly believe in the benefits of a natural birth while
acknowledging that sometimes interventions are necessary for the
well being of both mother and baby. Routine interventions without
any medical indications have no place in maternity care.
We feel that in addition to a caring and supportive approach, it is essential
that a labor supporter, postpartum doula, childbirth educator
or breastfeeding counselor should have a strong
knowledge base of both the normal and the abnormal. This
understanding enables health professionals to guide parents through their choices
and help them to find their voice.
All students are assigned a trainer who supports and mentors them
throughout their training program. No matter how small the question,
or how long a student requires support for, your trainer is there to
help you. Trainers
are experienced and accredited
childbirth educators and doulas. Reflecting our
international flavor, we have team members
from the USA,
Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the
UK. We also have a customer service support team to help you with
any questions.
Together with our experience of pregnancy, labor, birth and
parenting, our team members also have experience in nursing,
publishing, public relations, human resources, childcare, law,
writing, and information technology. We have all participated in
distance learning programs ourselves and understand the
challenges of this form of education.

Nikki - Founder of CBI
I first became interested, (obsessed!)with birth
following the birth of my first son.
After having had a
variety of birth experiences including water birth and unassisted
homebirth, I began training others in this field. It is
important to me that doulas and childbirth educators feel
prepared emotionally and with a strong knowledge base in
order to effectively support women through the journey of
pregnancy and childbirth.
Jeanne - Trainer
I am mother of 6 children (5 boys, 1 girl). This
is definitely what I want to be doing at this point in my
life! I live in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, and have home
schooled my children for 18 years. I love the Bee
Gees music and going to soccer games. My husband and
children are 100% supportive of me being a doula and
trainer. So happy to be here and welcome to all CBI
students!
Maggie - Customer Service
Artist... Traveler... Photographer... Writer... Lover
of nature, wildlife, good books, great music and exciting
challenges...With my husband and two children I spent the
first thirty years of my life living in New Zealand, before
moving with them to Australia. I have traveled in the USA,
Canada, Mexico, Central & South America and the UK. I have
seen CBI grow from an idea, and blossom into a wonderful
organization, one in which I am proud to be involved with.
My role in customer service and administration affords me
the opportunity to welcome new students, help keep the
administrative wheels turning smoothly, and to share in the
exciting challenges facing each and every woman involved.
Yonit - Trainer
I am a mother of 3 children. I home school them, work as
a doula, and teach childbirth education and new doulas too!
I have a great life!
Kit - Trainer
I
have been a Doula since the start of 2005. I live in
Northern California and grew up in Colorado. I am married to
a wonderful man who is very supportive, we have just
recently had our first baby. He says I am a guidance
counselor for pregnant women!! And I love it...

Sandy - Trainer & Program Author
Originally from the United States but have lived in
Canada, England, Northern Ireland, &
Singapore, I would describe myself as taking the long
and winding road to becoming a
Childbirth International trainer. I worked in the book publishing industry in editorial and
production for several years before I had my first child.
When pregnant for the first time, I hired a Doula and became
fascinated by the "new"
ideas about birth that this opened up. I discovered that
even after my baby was born I could not stop reading and
talking about pregnancy and birth. That was the main clue
that perhaps I would like to make a career change and train
as a Doula and Childbirth Educator myself.
Teri - Editor & Trainer
Wife, mother and self-professed "birth junkie", I have four
astounding children, the last two of whom were born at home
with the assistance of midwives, family, and friends. I
believe strongly in the innate wisdom that women possess in
childbirth and want to contribute to the development of a
kinder and more natural culture of birth in the United
States and abroad. I enjoy writing, quilting, and dabbling
in sugar arts. My husband Christopher and I are co-owners of
an Internet Service Provider in southern Colorado; we enjoy
reading, road-tripping, home schooling, and spending gobs of
time together.
Claire - Trainer
I have recently returned to the UK after spending 8
years living and working in Singapore. During that time I
trained with CBI as a Doula & CBE, before becoming a CBI
trainer. I am currently in the process of settling back into
UK life. I have two gorgeous girls; Lydia, born in hospital
in Singapore 2001 and Ellen born at home, also in Singapore,
in 2004.
